CREATE + SATURDAY
I always have little one off ideas that I’d like to do, but I never do them because I don’t have a forum for them. Alas, the creation of CREATE + SATURDAY. CREATE + SATURDAY is simply to foster more creativity in my life and hopefully in the lives of others. Whatever discipline you practice whether it be design, photography, writing, music or whatever I hope this encourages you to delve further into it and share. The idea is simple, create whatever you want and post it. Join a brother, man!
Extraordinary.

“Creative Community” Are we doing this right?
What does the term “creative” even mean? It’s such a vague term now-a-days. I say now-a-days like I’ve lived in some golden age of creatives, but hear me out. This isn’t a rant. I’m more intrigued than aggravated.
But seriously, what does that term really mean? Can you fake it? I would assume so, but maybe that’s my personal bias. Can you dress the part? I personally don’t think so. Why do I hear an increasing number of millenials labeling themselves as such? Can it be attained, or is it God given?
Actually, I changed my mind. I am aggravated. I don’t know why, but terms like "creative" and “creative community” have really annoyed me lately. It’s not really, "creative community,” it’s, “What can you do for me ?” It’s, “How many followers do you have? Oh okay, take a picture of me.“ It’s, "So thankful for awesome hangs with my rad new friend.” C'mon doggie, that ain’t real; that ain’t community.
This behavior doesn’t foster community, but comparison. Real community affirms and validates. Comparison leads to insecurity and inadequacy. Why should you feel less than, because what you created isn’t “up to par.” Don’t get me wrong, I’m all for pushing yourself and growing, but please, by no means put your identity in what you do. You are so much more than that! Yes, your work is a reflection of you to a certain extent, but IT IS NOT the summation of you.
You were created in the image of God, therefore, you have an intrinsic value that can’t be taken away. If you’re a believer, rest in the fact that you have a God, a heavenly Father, that went to the ultimate extreme to save you, He didn’t have to, but He did. He desired to and it gave Him great pleasure to do so. Sometimes it’s hard for me to believe that. Not in my head, but in my heart. It says so in the Bible, Ephesians 1:5, and I believe that - I really do - so I must continually encourage myself with that truth. If you’re not a believer, rest in the fact that you were created in the image of a God who loves you. Period.
So maybe you live at home with your parents, and not in a loft with exposed brick begging to be on tumblr. So maybe you freelance for your parents’ friends making atrocious logos, and not for a dope obscure marketing firm in Chicago or New York. Okay, fine, you have 200 Instagram followers. Okay, I get it, your soundcloud isn’t “popping” like it should, though you have the talent. My point is: so what? These things don’t define you. They bring brief satisfaction, but not deep gratification. Put your hope in something - or someone, rather - that can’t be taken away: Jesus. He gives us real meaning. He gives us real hope. He gives us real identity, which is, “Child of God”. Is that hard to believe? Yeah, no doubt, because you don’t “feel” that all the time, but His love isn’t a feeling. It is constant and real, a love that goes beyond cheap feelings - and that is what you were created for, literally.
